LoTRO is free. They give you quests from lvl 1-30. at lvl 20-65 you get instances and dungeons. and you can earn the points for their currency (turbine points) through doing things called deeds.

Its a very slow paced game till you can skirmish.

You dont really get an anvantage over other players and pvp isnt til around lvl 40 or 50. lvl cap is 65.

You just pay if you want more zones after lvl 30. However, you dont NEED them because you can lvl doing skirmishes. THere are 2 free skirmishes and you can level pretty fast. They take between 18-25min and you can get lvl 20-21 in about 3 or 4 skirmishes.

There are also 3 free dungeons that you WILL need a party (fellowship) for.
